Is your pet going to the sitters this Christmas?

ARE YOU PLANNING ON GOING ON A VACATION THIS CHRISTMAS AND WON’T BE ABLE TO TAKE YOUR DOG?

Will your dog be staying at a babysitter’s (friend or family)? Maybe the sitter is staying at your house to take care of your dog.

If your dog is staying with a sitter while you are away please go to a pet store and get a dog tag made up with the sitter’s phone number on it. This way, no matter if you are staying in the country or travelling over sea, if your dog goes missing the phone number on the tag will help get your baby back with the sitter quicker.

Make sure the sitter has a current picture of your dog. If anything happens, they can send us the missing information along with a current picture. Dogs get home faster when there is a picture posted.

Make sure you have your current phone number associated with the Tattoo & Microchip

Let your vet know if you are going to be away and who will be looking after your dog for you.  Consider any emergency vet needs while you are away.

Even if your dog is an obedient dog anything could happen. Wouldn’t you want the piece of mind knowing your four-legged family member has a good chance to get back to the sitters safely and quickly?

Provide the babysitter with an alternative emergency contact i.e. a relative or close friend

Tips for the dog sitter.

  • Please make sure you have a dog tag with your correct phone number on it
  • Make sure you have a current picture of the dog
  • Keep the dog on a leash while outside. Doesn’t matter if you are babysitting at their house or yours. The dog might want to go for a walk on its own to look for their owner.
  • Use a baby gate to prevent the dog running out to look for their owner when your front door is opened
  • Check your gates and fences for possible escape routes
  • Don’t leave the dog unattended outside.

To the owner and babysitter, please make sure you both know about Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert so there is no time lost when posting the dog missing.

Wishing you all safe travels over the Holiday Season.
